On the morning of August 31, our school held the 2023 Student Work Seminar and the 13th Counselor Forum in the conference hall on the 10th floor of the Longkun South Campus Library. This forum was hosted by the Student Affairs Department (Department) of the Party Committee, with the theme "Doing a good job in mental health education and carefully serving students’ growth and success.”

 

Xu Mei, Secretary of the School Party Committee; Bai Xianliang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President; and Wang Renbin, Member of the Party Committee Standing Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the seminar. The leaders of the Propaganda Department and Youth League Committee of the school party committee, as well as the secretaries, deans, and deputy secretaries of the party committees of each college, as well as full-time counselors and all staff members of the Student Affairs Office and Youth League Committee, attended the meeting.

 

At the opening ceremony, Bai Xianliang expressed his gratitude to all student workers in his speech and comprehensively interpreted the "1348" work plan on how to carry out student work based on the actual situation of our school. He made suggestions on the school's student work: improve the position and build consensus; work together to jointly manage and form synergy; face problems directly and deepen reforms; grasp the rules and promote development; form a brand and highlight characteristics.

 

Xu Mei was awarded the “One-Stop” Student Community Workstation and delivered a speech. She highly affirmed the work of our school's students, congratulated the phased results of the construction of the "one-stop" student community, and expressed condolences on behalf of the school to the student workers who have been working on the front line for a long time.

 

Xu Mei proposed four requirements for student work based on the conference theme. Firstly, we need to further enhance our political stance and fully recognize the importance of student work. All students and workers must be based on the "two overall situations", have the "greatest of the country" in mind, always stand at the height of educating people for the party and the country, and fully implement the new requirements of the school to build moral education and cultivate people. Secondly, we need to further strengthen our responsibilities and promote the detailed implementation of student work. You must have a strong sense of professionalism and responsibility, care for, respect, and trust students, be a mentor and friend to them, and put yourself in their shoes. Thirdly, we need to further strengthen the construction of the student work team and enhance the combat effectiveness of student work. We should focus on exploring the mechanisms for building a student work team, providing development space for students, expanding work platforms, improving the training and incentive system for student work teams, and encouraging and supporting students to take the path of specialization and professionalization. Fourth, we must further persist in seeking progress while maintaining stability. It is necessary to build a strong and stable defense line for campus safety, strictly implement various safety systems, constantly focus on campus safety, analyze and judge hidden risks and make rectifications in place, improve the pertinence and effectiveness of safety education, and further improve students' safety awareness and self-protection capabilities.

 

At the student work seminar, Xu Mei also gave a special lecture entitled "Policy Interpretation and New Thinking on the Construction of a Counselor Team". The first part of the lecture was an interpretation of the policy on counselor team building. Xu Mei introduced in detail the formulation process and content of policies related to the construction of counselor teams from several important meetings and documents, such as the National Conference on Ideological and Political Work in Colleges and Universities and the "Opinions on Further Strengthening and Improving Ideological and Political Education for College Students" of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. Improve participants' accurate understanding of counselors' responsibilities and values. The second part of the lecture was about new thinking on the construction of the counselor team in the new era. Xu Mei interpreted the construction of the counselor team from the three eras of professionalization (1.0), professional development (2.0), and expert development (4.0). characteristics and career requirements, and shared with participants how to build a team of subject expert counselors.

 

It is reported that since 2010, our school has held student work seminars and counselor forums for 13 consecutive years, conducting in-depth summaries and discussions on the problems and situations that arise in student education, management, service, and guidance work, refining and enhancing new concepts, experiences, methods, and content in our school's student work, effectively promoting the continuous innovation of our school's student work.

On September 1–2, the Student Affairs Office also invited off-campus experts to provide college counselors with mental health training for college students.
