On October 14th, the first national academic seminar on "Hairui Spirit and Its Contemporary Value" was held at Hairui Cultural Park in Haikou City. More than 80 experts, scholars, and disciplinary inspection and supervision workers from more than 20 units, including Jinan University, Northeast Normal University, Beijing School of Administration, and Shanxi Academy of Social Sciences, gathered together to talk about Hairui and integrity, gather ideological consensus, gather research results, provide solid theoretical support for the innovation and development of traditional culture, and promote the construction of an incorruptible and honest free trade port.

The conference was co-organized by the Hainan Provincial Integrity Culture Research Base and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of our university, and co-organized by the Haikou Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection, Haikou Hairui Cultural Park, and the editorial department of our university's journal. Xu Mei, Secretary of the Party Committee of our school and Director of the Integrity Culture Research Base in Hainan Province; Zheng Wenjing, Member of the Standing Committee of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Hainan Province; and Liu Zhenggang, a renowned Hairui research expert and a Professor of Jinan University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches.

Xu Mei introduced the construction of an incorruptible culture in our school. She stated that the school attached great importance to the construction of an incorruptible culture and has established the Hainan Provincial Integrity Culture Research Base and the Hairui Research Association, which relied on the platform to form many valuable scientific research achievements. The school will further strengthen team building, refine research directions, and enrich high-quality scientific research achievements and social service supply, as represented by Hairui's integrity culture. At the same time, we ought to solidly carry out academic research on family tutoring and family conduct, promote the red family conduct, consolidate the foundation of incorruptible and honest thinking, cultivate a cultural foundation of integrity and dedication to the public, cultivate integrity, self-discipline, and moral integrity, play a fundamental role in integrity education, promote the social trend of respecting integrity and rejecting corruption, and promote the organic unity of research on incorruptible culture, party conduct and clean government construction, and spiritual civilization construction in the construction of the Free Trade Port in the new era, continue to use a incorruptible culture to polish the integrity of Haishi and contribute to the construction of a clean free trade port as a "Haishi force".

Zheng Wenjing proposed three requirements to the attendees. Firstly, we should conscientiously study General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourse on strengthening the construction of a clean culture in the new era, deeply understand the significance of strengthening the construction of a clean culture in the new era, and effectively enhance his sense of mission and responsibility. The second is to adhere to the application of the standpoint, viewpoint, and method that runs through Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics in the new era, and to promote the continuous achievement of research on clean culture in the new era. Thirdly, the Hainan Provincial Integrity Culture Research Base and Hainan Hairui Research Association must strengthen their cooperation and integration with clean culture research institutions outside the province and provide strong support for incorruptible culture in the construction of a clean free trade port.

Liu Zhenggang shared the origins and reflections of his and Hai Rui's research. He believed that the cultural symbols carried by the spirit of Hai Rui had surpassed the cultural symbols of upright officials. The spirit of Hai Rui has rich connotations, with diligence and frugality in daily life, integrity in work, emphasis on research, law, and petitions for the people. The excellent traditional Chinese cultural spirit reflected in the Hai Rui spirit surpassed specific groups of people. Regarding the future planning of the Hai Rui Research Association, Liu Zhenggang proposed three considerations: firstly, the research association should be based in Hainan, face the world, and tell the story of Hai Rui to the world well; second, to promote interdisciplinary research on the spirit of Hairui, injecting more vitality into Hairui's clean culture; and third, to continue to expand the research funding channels of the research association.

After the opening ceremony, five experts, including Professor Zhang Shuoren of Hainan Tropical Ocean University, Professor Gao Shouxian of Beijing Administration Institute, Professor Zhao Kesheng of our school, Associate Professor Yu Jingdong of Yangtze University, and Professor Shen Yimin of Lanzhou University, delivered keynote speeches and shared research results from multiple perspectives, such as Hairui's integrity spirit, Hairui's practical identity, and Hairui's character.

On the afternoon of the 14th, participating experts and scholars held a round-table discussion around the conference theme. On the evening of the 13th, the Hainan Hairui Research Association held its first membership meeting.

It is reported that the Hainan Provincial Integrity Culture Research Base was unveiled at our school on November 23, 2022, committed to becoming the main position for Hainan Integrity Culture Research, the main channel for Hainan Integrity Culture Education, and a new force in the construction of the Integrity Free Trade Port.
