On June 8th, the unveiling ceremony of the Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Innovation Research Institute and the Hainan Li Brocade Industry Alliance was held at the Art Gallery of the School of Fine Arts within Hainan Normal University. Zhang Huawei, Deputy Secretary-General of the Hainan Provincial Government; Liu Cheng, Deputy Director of the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports; Cui Ying, Deputy Director of the Hainan Provincial Department of Education; Xu Mei, Party Secretary of Hainan Normal University; Vice Presidents Yang Zijiu and Zhang Yin attended the event, with Zhang Yin presiding over the opening ceremony.
At the opening ceremony, Zhang Huawei, Cui Ying, Liu Cheng, Xu Mei, Yang Zijiu, and Fu Xueyan, a representative inheritor of the traditional Li textile dyeing, weaving, and embroidery, jointly unveiled the plaques for the Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Innovation Research Institute and the Hainan Li Brocade Industry Alliance.
Liu Cheng stated that the joint integration of industry, academia, and research is key to the healthy development of industries. As a foundation for the inheritance of traditional Chinese culture named by the Ministry of Education, Hainan Normal University has a strong faculty, solid theoretical foundations, and robust research capabilities, based on the innovative experimental zone for talent cultivation in art and design focused on the inheritance of Li brocade culture.The establishment of the Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Innovation Research Institute at Hainan Normal University will foster a model where government guidance, university research innovation, and enterprise collaboration come together, providing intellectual support for the protection, inheritance, and industrial development of Hainan’s intangible cultural heritage.
Cui Ying emphasized that the Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Innovation Research Institute and the Hainan Li Brocade Industry Alliance has the ability to deeply explore the essence and value of Hainan's intangible cultural heritage, promote the integration of intangible heritage with modern design, and align the academic programs of higher education in Hainan with the needs of the industry. This will contribute to the development of Hainan’s cultural endeavors and provide wisdom and strength for the construction of Hainan as an International Design Island.
Xu Mei pointed out that the establishment of the Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Innovation Research Institute and the Hainan Li Brocade Industry Alliance is an important measure to advance the protection and inheritance of Hainan’s intangible cultural heritage, as well as the innovative utilization of intangible heritage. It will better protect, inherit, and promote intangible cultural heritage, contributing the strength of local universities to preserving the historical traditions, bolstering cultural confidence, facilitating the exchange and mutual learning of civilizations, as well as establishing a socialist cultural powerhouse.
It is reported that the Hainan Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Innovation Research Institute is an academic and research institution jointly established by Hainan Normal University and the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture. Its primary mission is to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of intangible cultural heritage through the integration of industry and education. The institute will collaborate across cultural and artistic disciplines, inviting domestic and international experts and scholars to participate in interdisciplinary research. By gathering international resources and through joint training, academic exchanges, study tours, and collaborative programs, the institute aims to establish a high-end academic community and lead the trend in the globalization of art education. Domestically, the institute will establish advisory and academic committees, and collaborate with renowned institutions such as the Chinese National Academy of Arts, Tsinghua University, and the Central Academy of Fine Arts, serving the development of Hainan’s cultural and artistic industries. It will cultivate and attract high-end talent urgently needed for both the immediate and long-term development of the cultural and artistic fields in Hainan.
In recent years, the School of Fine Arts at Hainan Normal University has been committed to exploring the essence of Hainan’s intangible cultural heritage, promoting the deep integration of intangible heritage with modern design, continuously incorporating innovation into art and design education, enhancing the cultivation of innovative design talent in Hainan’s regional culture, and aligning academic programs with industry needs. This effort contributes to the field of traditional cultural arts and design in Hainan.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by officials from the Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture, the Provincial Department of Education, heads of relevant departments at Hainan Normal University, the Administration of the School of Fine Arts, faculty and students, intangible cultural heritage inheritors, and representatives from the business community.
