Hainan Normal University is in the beautiful coastal tourist city of Haikou, with two campuses (Longkunnan Campus/ Longkun South Campus and Guilinyang Campus), convering an area of about 2.07km²/510.68 acres. It is a key university in Hainan Province, jointly built by the government of Hainan Province and the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China,an important cultivation base for teachers and senior specialists and a scientific research base in Hainan Province.Established in 1949,HNNUhas trained more than 200,000 teachers.

HNNU is the first batch of Chinese education bases established by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, the South East Asia Chinese Language Promotion Teacher Training Base approved by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/National Chinese Office, and the Confucius Institute Scholarship Applicant Receiving Institution.

There are 2163 faculty members, including 1,404 are full-time teachers and scientific researchers, and 688 are teachers with seniorprofessional titles.

HNNUhas more than 23,000 full-time students, 25 colleges, 65 undergraduate majors,6Primary Discipline Doctoral Programs, 19 Primary Discipline Master’s Programs,21 Authorized Master’s Professional Degree Disciplines, 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education,4 post-doctoral research stations and 21 academician innovation platforms.

HNNUhas formed a complete higher education personnel training system of bachelor, postgraduate and doctor degrees, and a well coordinated development structure of teacher training and non-teacher training majors. The university is highly influential in the fields of ecological environment protection and restoration of Hainan Island, conservation and utilization of endemic plants and animals, inheritance and innovation of Hainan's local culture, and teacher education.
