On the morning of September 14th, our university held the Hainan Normal University Celebration for the 40th Teachers' Day in the second-floor lecture hall of the Tian Jiabing Education Academy at Longkun South campus. The event honored exemplary teachers who made outstanding contributions in teaching and research over the past year. Attendees included university leadership members Xu Mei, Chen Xiangsong, Wang Yu, Zhang Yin, Han Xiaoyu, and Huang Yijun. The meeting was presided over by Wang Yu, standing member of the Party Committee and Vice President of our university.
Before the meeting began, all attendees watched a news reel of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech at the National Education Conference and enjoyed performances by the School of Music, including the solo dance “Zhang Guimei”, the duet “Building Dreams in the New Era”, and the poetry recitation "Teachers are Like Light" by the university’s student art troupe.
During the meeting, university leaders presented awards to representatives of the 2024 Hainan Normal University Outstanding Teachers, Outstanding Education Workers, and Moral Role Model Teachers. Party Secretary Xu Mei and President Chen Xiangsong presented flowers to six retiring teacher representatives. Chen Guangying from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering led the 2024 cohort of new faculty members in a solemn oath.
Outstanding teacher representatives Liang Guang, Feng Qing, Li Weizheng, and Zhang Rui, along with retiring teacher representative Li Lei and new faculty representative Lin Xieyu, gave speeches sharing their experiences and reflections on educating and nurturing students. They expressed their commitment in maintaining their dedication to teaching, remembering their mission to educate, and continuing to improve their skills to contribute to the construction of a first-class normal university.
Chen Xiangsong emphasized that in the past year, the quality of our university's education and teaching has significantly improved, and there has been remarkable progress in teacher development, with a group of outstanding teachers emerging as role models. He put forth three key expectations for the entire faculty and students: First of all, as educators, we must nurture a deep passion for education, stay true to our original mission, and courageously undertake the responsibility of developing talent for the Party and the nation by putting moral education into practice. Secondly, we must innovate educational concepts, actively promote personalized education, integrate and build teaching resources, and create a new framework for cultivating talents through coursework, with the aim of training future "four-traits" good teachers. Thirdly, we must promote a spirit of practice, actively develop a model education system, enhance the quality of normal education, and build a strong normal educational brand to rally efforts for the construction of a "domestic first-class normal university".
On behalf of the university's Party Committee, Xu Mei expressed her respect to the teachers and students who participated in disaster relief efforts, and extended holiday greetings to all faculty members and retiring colleagues. She emphasized the need to build a high-level, professional, and innovative teaching workforce for the new era, contributing to the cultivation and training of "four-traits" good teachers for Hainan and the nation and to the cause of building a strong education system. First of all, we must uphold the leadership of the Party and create a favorable environment that values and respects education. The Party political and organizational development must always take precedence, ensuring the Party’s leadership in building the teaching workforce and enhancing protection for teacher rights while fostering a positive environment for the growth of teachers. Secondly, we must promote the spirit of educators and guide students to become “great teachers” with “big hearts, deep knowledge, broad visions, and high moral standards”. We should also strengthen the construction of teacher ethics and care for student growth, becoming the cornerstone for students' personal and professional success. Thirdly, we must adhere to the primary responsibility of normal education and continue to train and provide “four-traits” good teachers for Hainan and the nation. Additionally, we must persist in using Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era to guide and shape education and integrate the cultivation of the “spirit of educators” throughout the entire process of normal student education.
