On April 27th, the “National Third College Student Counseling Course and Teaching Innovation Competition” concluded at the Shanghai Sunshine Foreign Language School in Tongxiang, Zhejiang Province. The School of Psychology sent two undergraduate students from the 2021 Applied Psychology program, Hou Yu and Wei Yaoyue, who excelled in the competition, both winning first prize.
The competition began in February of this year and consisted of two phases: preliminary and final rounds. A total of 156 universities participated, with 288 undergraduate students in the major of Psychology competing in the preliminaries. Our School of Psychology sent two contestants to participate in the competition. The preliminary round involved teaching design and teaching video submissions, from which 144 contestants advanced to the finals. The final round included a lesson presentation and a live teaching segment. After intense competition, both undergraduate students from our School of Psychology were awarded first prize, showcasing their solid teaching fundamentals and counseling skills.
The School of Psychology has always placed great importance on cultivating undergraduate teaching abilities. Recognizing the significance of this competition, it established a guidance team consisting of three outstanding faculty members from the college, who provided training and guidance at each stage, including lesson plans, presentations, mock teaching, and live instruction, to enhance students’ educational capabilities in psychological health education courses.
It is reported that this competition was co-hosted by the Higher Education Psychology Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and the Chinese Psychological Society, with Zhejiang Normal University as the organizer. The competition aims to better exchange experiences in training psychology professionals across the country, enhance the teaching abilities of psychology students in counseling courses, and cultivating a group of outstanding reserve teachers in mental health education for primary and secondary schools, with high moral standards, advanced teaching concepts, and solid counseling skills.
